Most people associate learning disorders with dyslexia—with children who have trouble learning to read, even though they’re just as bright as the next kid, because decoding written language is hard for them. But there’s another, smaller group of kids who have trouble decoding what they hear. Even though there’s nothing wrong with their hearing itself, they miss a lot of what’s being said to them or around them, and they have difficulty remembering what they hear.
